Spain, guest of honor at the Sharjah International Book Fair
The international fair held in November will have a Spanish pavilion, in which creators, representatives of the Spanish book industry and publishers will participate
Spain will be the guest of honor at the Sharjah International Book Fair, United Arab Emirates, which will be held from November 3 to 13, 2021, coinciding with Expo 2020 Dubai, that begins on October 1 and will last until October 31 March 2022. The Sharjah Book Fair has been organized since 1982 and is the largest in the Arab world.
The event will have a section for publishers and another one for writers, with a strong presence of children and young adults books. The 2019 edition welcomed 1,874 publishers from 77 countries and 2.3 million visitors who had access to around 20 million books on display.
Spain, as the guest of honor, will have a pavilion in whose construction the Spanish Business Council in the UAE and the Turespaña Office in Abu Dhabi will collaborate. There, Spanish publications will be shown and creators, publishers and representatives of the Spanish book industry will attend.
Work for literary relations between countries
Within the Sharjah International Book Fair, Spain will also participate in two professional programs. One of them will be the Conference of the American Library Association (ALA), which will have the experience of librarians from the region, the United States and from other countries. There, Spanish librarians will participate to strengthen literary relations and ties between the two countries. The second program is the Editors Conference of the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF), which will consist of seminars on Arab and international publishing business, the ‘Matchmaking Program’ and the opportunities to apply for the SIBF translation scholarship . The guest of honor, Spain, along with its represented publishers, will have the opportunity to participate in this conference.
