The Spain Pavillion building
Intelligence is the key to success of the human species. Our resourcefulness, creativity and capacity for innovation are essential tools for preserving life and biodiversity and creating a sustainable future. The slogan “Intelligence for life” sums up the goals of the Spain Pavilion.
The Spain Pavilion aims to offer itself up as an example of intelligent creativity, capable of uniting people around amazing creative projects in the fields of science, technology, production, education and art. These projects will bear the Spanish mark and have the potential to change our lives and our future. The Pavilion has an area of 5,800 m2 and is located next to some of the main attractions of the Expo, such as the central Al Wasl Square or the United Arab Emirates Pavilion, as well as the pavilions of other countries, such as Germany or New Zealand.
The architectural project for the Spain Pavilion corresponds to the Amann-Cánovas-Maruri studio (Extremas Temperatures Architects SLP) and stands out for the iconic strength of the design and its “bioclimatic architecture” adapted to a hot desert environment like Dubai, which allows it to maintain a temperature cooler thanks to the cones that facilitate air circulation. This allows a reduced energy consumption.
The square offers various interconnected spaces, covered by cones, where visitors will have the chance to learn about Spain’s contributions to global culture and its ties to the Arab world.
The atrium connects the square with the below-ground level. It's a controlled-access space and one of the most spectacular spaces, as it houses an artistic installation that portrays the theme “Intelligence for life”.
The below-ground level is where the theatre and exhibition gallery can be found. The theatre will offer an amazing and unforgettable cinematographic show as a way of presenting Spain to visitors of Expo Dubai. The exhibition gallery includes the forest of the future: This unique theatrical setting showcases a selection of innovative Spanish projects in sustainability to promote a participative reflection on the sustainable development.
